A few quick photos of the large auroral event of 29th Oct 2003. Just posted to show those clouded out or in light polluted areas what they may have missed.
Two images do actually have light pollution, which ones?
I'm not convinced about the colours either. These images are much more vivid than what my eyes saw. The green was very pale and milky, certainly not the shade represented here. I suspect this is down to the almost single frequency of the auroral light emmisions and just three sensors for red, green and blue in the camera. The pale green light is only picked up by the green sensor so only the shade of green in the display device is turned on.
I was only aware of red in the sky for the last two pictures with the diagonal clouds, apart from the two with patches of light pollution that is. B-)
