Dave Liquorice MIBS
Freelance Sound Engineer
Full Member Institute of Broadcast Sound

Background

Dave Liquorice I have been freelance since 1993, following 14 years in BBC Bristol's Audio Unit, and have gained considerable experience and skills in both radio and TV sound operations.  In the final years of my BBC career my duties could have been anything from simple 1/4" tape editing to the sole responsibility for the sound planning, implementation and supervision of a television outside broadcast.  Since becoming freelance I have continued to work across a range of areas, including outside broadcasts, studios, single and multi camera drama.

Providing first class support to a Sound Supervisor is my aim, leaving them free to concentrate on the programme instead of the minutiae of keeping a production running smoothly.  With this in mind, keeping at least two steps ahead of the production team is another goal so they are never kept "waiting for sound".

I am a Full Member of the Institute of Broadcast Sound (IBS).  The Institute was formed to meet a need for better interchange of ideas and techniques between practitioners in the various areas of broadcast sound.  The IBS operates a very effective E-mail list: if I don't know an answer, I probably know someone who does.

Further Programmes of Note

My Parents Are Aliens (YTV), Series I, II & III.  Series I was nominated for the Royal Television Society's Best Children's Drama.  Series II won the RTS Children's Drama category in 2000 and the Banff Rockie Award for Best Children's Programme in 2001.  [Fisher Boom Operator].

Christmas with the Gulf (BBC).  Nominated for the Royal Television Society's Outside Broadcast of the year 1991.  I was responsible for the sound at the Bahrain transmission site for this satellite linked, live, multi location OB.  [Sound Supervisor].

Christmas with the Gulf was a "fly away" outside broadcast.  All the normal communications and programme facilities one would expect to find in a proper Outside Broadcast vehicle came from a kit of bits selected by me and connected together on location.  Other programmes I have worked on using this fly away technique are Antiques Roadshow (BBC) from Jamaica & Malta [Deputy Sound Supervisor] and a live This is the Day (BBC) from Skellig Michael, a tiny uninhabited island off the South West coast of Ireland [Sound Supervisor].
